Growers News:

Several “Live” markets are opening around the area, don’t fight for parking spots and get there and see they have sold out, check with us here on Stones River Locally Grown or send a message to any of our Growers if you are wanting something inparticular.

WELCOME Foster Bakery: New to our Market, highly recommended by NashPhilly.

Do you like bread? Enjoy this staple guilt-free by buying a whole wheat loaf from me. Unlike many commercial bakeries that use bromated/carcinogenic ingredients, I use simple and minimally processed ingredients to make a delicious and filling bread. Bread made from whole wheat flour contains greater amounts of protein, fiber, and vitamins. 2-3 slices meets 15% of your daily iron needs and over a quarter of the recommended fiber intake. Whole wheat bread is also a great food to aid weight loss (ask me: I lost 20 pounds after I started making this bread)! This loaf makes approximately 10-12 slices + 2 endpieces. Slice as you go for best quality (unless if you plan to freeze it). Since my bread doesn’t contain any preservatives, it’s best to consume or freeze within 3-4 days of picking up. The bags are freezer friendly.

Safe and Sound Soap Co.: This week I’ve added a new product for Mother’s Day. My Citrus Gift Baskets! Each basket comes with an Orange Bergamot Room Spray and Hand Sanitizer, as well as a Lemon Zest Body Scrub and a Citrus Bar Soap! Each item is tucked into a cute gold wire basket with some decorative paper shreds. You won’t have to worry about buying a gift bag because it’s already in a cute basket! I also decided to continue running my Laundry soap sale. This will be the last week that I’ll have them discounted for a while so if you’ve been thinking about ordering some now is the time!
I also have added two new scents to my Car Air Freshener collection. The Lavender car freshener is scented entirely using essential oils. It’s relaxing and light, the perfect scent to relieve stress on your morning commute to work. The Suit and Tie Car Air Freshener is scented using the highest quality blend of non toxic, vegan, phthalate and paraben free fragrance oils. It smells very similar to mahogany teakwood, so if that is one of your favorite scents you’ll love this one.

Valentine Cottage: Getting ready to start gearing up for the fresh veggies coming out of the Garden this week. Back in stock this week freeze dried local strawberries, freeze dried apple bites, turnip greens powder, freeze dried pineapple bites and one of my favorites freeze dried sugar snap peas.

Rainbow Hill Farm: Several live produce plants available and Strawberry Plants, more to come. Excited to be back this season.

Emerald Acres: Delicious Lettice Mix and Lettuce Mixed Heads, Sugar Snap Peas, Spinach, Spring Mix Flowers and Strawberries.

Tailwynds Farm: We have some new cuts of beef available. We have a Picanha Roast Cut. This cut can be grilled to perfection, has wonderful flavor and a similar texture to a sirloin steak and to top it off try a homemade fresh strawberry pie for dessert. If you have not tried a Tomahawk steak we still have some available. We have had amazing reviews on these cuts with customers saying it was the best and most tender steak they have ever eaten. Fire up those grills and give one a try. We have many crops already growing and plan to have all the farm fresh vegetables available as soon as they start coming in.

NashPhilly: Several prepared items in the Soup, Seasonal Side Dishes and Noodles, Pasta, Italian Sauses Category. Perfect for your upcoming Mother’s Day meal or this weeks meals.

Pinky’s Micro’s:
New Spring blend of power packed microgreens…Romaine, Golden Leeks, Lemon Basil and Red Panda Sorrell.
Also check out our other Micro’s – Basic Salad Mix, Broccoli, Cilantro, Pea, Radish, Red Amaranth, Sunflower and Wheat Grass Shots.

Oakview Farm:
We will have some of its customer favorites this week: Scandanavian Buttermilk Sourdough Bread, Artisan Sourdough bread, Roasted Strawberry Jam, and Homemade Peppermint Patties! Our hens have been laying like crazy, so we have fresh eggs, too.
From our garden, we have our Salad Greens Mix, Cabbage, Rainbow Swiss Chard, and Spinach. We don’t use any chemical fertilizers or pesticides on our produce, so you know it’s good for you and the environment.

Quarter Spring Farm: has all the affordable luxury that you need this spring. From our moisturizing soaps to our delicious meats and eggs, we have all the goodies to pamper you. You work hard, so treat yourself to an incredible dining experience with our lamb or chicken. It’s healthier and tastier than conventionally grown meats, and better for the planet, too. Our amazing goat milk soaps and lotions will leave your skin feeling like you just dropped 2 grand at a high end spa. You deserve nice things, so let us provide them to you.

Kumaika Coffee:
If you have not started your morning with our Coffee, you are missing out! We have Dark, Medium and Light Roasted Beans. We are a Certified USDA Organic Product provider. We have a small coffee roaster business. We specialize in roasting and crafting small batches of organic, high altitude single origin and fair trade coffee beans. We bring the coffee beans directly from Nicaragua and roast small batches in our home located in Lascassas TN. We have Beans and/or Ground Coffee available or can’t decide order our Sampler of all 3.

Thank you for choosing Northeast Georgia Locally Grown as a way to support your local producers. This online farmers market allows you to buy directly from multiple farms committed to chemical-free and local produce all year long! CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!

PICKUP TIME is Wednesday from 5-6:30 p.m. in Clayton, Clarkesville, or Gainesville.

If you do not get an email ORDER CONFIRMATION after you finish the checkout process, then your order is NOT complete. Head back to the market page, and your order might still be there waiting for you to check out! If you have any trouble or questions at all, we are here to help; simply reply to this email.

Once you place an order, be on the lookout for the order reminder email on Wednesday with further pickup and payment notes. Thanks for your support!

MISC MARKET NOTES

Welcome Phillips Farm

From our Grower Page: I am a small farm that grows year round. I have a growers permit and I grow many different things. I will have okra, squash, zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers, pinkeye peas, blackeye peas, 5 diffrent types of white peas including zipper peas and I have unwashed refrigerated eggs. I have a limited amount of red, gold, and russet potatoes.

In the winter I usually have turnips, collards, rutabaga, mustards, broccoli cauliflower and I have a greenhouse that I usually put tomatoes and okra in to have fresh ones for customers in the winter. I also sell shelled pecans in the fall when they are dropping. I only sell Elliots and dont ask alot for them. I try to keep all my prices low to help people in this economy.

I do my very best not to spray anything on any plants for bugs but if I have to it’s only organic approved, nothing I wouldn’t trust for a customer’s infant to take a bite out of. I fertilize with blacktop and fish fertlizer and strive to offer the freshest veggies and pecans.

In addition I also have planted some berries, grapes, a pear tree, and figs. I also have access to mature pear trees and a persimmon tree.

Good News About Fake Meat

We are proud and happy to report that Alabama’s legislature agrees with our assessment that fake meat is disgusting. So much so that they OUTLAWED IT the last day of the legislative session. Anyone wanting to risk their taste buds and health by sampling this abomination, well, they’ll just have to leave the state. What’s Everyone Doing These Days?

D’s Jellies: “I finished gathering Mayhaws and I have begun picking Blackberries for D’s Jellies.”

3LC Apiary: “This week at 3LC Apiary we are monitoring hives for Varroa mites and treating the hives that have too high of a varroa count with an organic acid mite treatment.”

Horton’s Farm:  "This week I added Soil Builder microbes (from Longears & Herbs) to my vegetables, started two more permaculture beds and finalized the layout for the east side of the garden rebuild."

Phillips Farm: This week we harvested squash and cucumbers and expect the peppers and zucchini to start producing soon. Next week I’ll be tilling between rows and adding fish fertilizer. While the zipper peas have flowered, both the pole beans and late zipper peas are just now sprouting.

Avalon Farms:

Retro picnic

Sorry to say the strawberries are done for this year. It was definitely a learning experience. I wish the harvest was spread out longer.

But, the squash are making! You can order yellow, zucchini or zephyr this week.  Oh, and radishes, we listed several varieties of radishes. We expect to have cucumbers next time. Onions and garlic are almost ready. Baby tomatoes on the vine. Peppers and eggplant are blooming up a storm.
